Jean Martin Clarinets

Clarinets branded with the Jean Martin name (in tribute to founder Jean Baptiste Martin) were manufactured between 1920 and 1968. Jean Martin clarinets were manufactured in limited quantities and for limited periods of time during the nearly 50 year manufacturing lifespan.

The three most popular models were manufactured of Grenadilla wood by Martin Freres:

Student, Intermediate: Jean Martin Made in France by Martin Freres

Entry-Level Professional: Jean Martin Deluxe Martin Freres Paris

The Jean Martin Made in France by Martin Freres is an intermediate student clarinet with a value up to $500 and the ‘Jean Martin Deluxe Martin Freres Paris’ is an entry level professional clarinet with a value up to $750.

Professional: Clarinets with the ‘Jean Martin A Paris’ logo were manufactured between 1920 and 1950. These are professional level clarinets which have a value up to $1000US. They are made of the very highest quality Grenadilla wood and have outstanding acoustic properties. In this model, an additional vent, controlled by the left hand Eb key, was installed to improve intonation.
